Women of the Kawarthas

Celebrating the incredible women in the City of Kawartha Lakes

The project

A community historical collection initiative, this is our opportunity to celebrate the incredible women that contribute to our daily lives in so many ways. This project focuses on participants 55+ living within the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Our Initiative

Throughout our lives, we are inspired, educated, nurtured and supported by smart, strong, compassionate and unique individuals.

The women in our lives have rich histories of great community contributions, whether they are teachers, healthcare professionals, community leaders and activists, artists, authors, makers and creators, farmers, active volunteers, the best pie baker at the fair year after year, the one that catalogues generations of family genealogy, or perhaps the most supportive friend or colleague.

Whomever this woman is, whether she recognizes it in herself or not, someone in her life recognizes that the world is a better place because she is in it. We want our community to know these women, embracing that contribution and positive impact takes many forms.

Who can contribute?

Is she your daughter, sister, aunt, mother, co-worker, coach, teacher, friend, or partner? Tell us why you think she should be recognized. We are also asking women not to be shy about recognizing their own greatness and contacting us to be a part of this project themselves. We want to hear from all of you. There are so many untold stories and we want to hear from you.

How it works

Participants will be initially interviewed by phone and then an appointment will be made to have an interview recorded, via Zoom virtual contact, or in person at the museum utilizing safe social distancing practices.

During the initial contact, we may ask if you have any supporting materials that may be copied for use in the project, such as photographs or other memorabilia. Originals will be returned.

We may also interview the nominator if they consent to be included in the project, to speak about why they support the person’s inclusion in the project.

The content gathered during this project will be edited into completed video formats for use as an online and in-house virtual exhibit, and then added to our Collection archives.
