OHS Dorothy Duncan Public History Award
November 2, 2024
The Ontario Historical Society is pleased to present the 2023-24 Dorothy Duncan Public History Award to the Kawartha Lakes Museum & Archives for their "Old Mill" Exhibit. The Dorothy Duncan Public History Award is presented to an outstanding public history project delivered in Ontario.
The Kawartha Lakes Museum & Archives has acted innovatively in the extended development and varied delivery format for this exhibit, which includes a physical exhibit at the museum, followed by a travelling exhibit, and culminating in a virtual exhibit, accessible to all audiences in 2024.
This engaging exhibit includes the personal and professional histories of the Flavelle brothers and their contribution to the Lindsay community that is still evident in the local community today. In all its formats, the exhibit uses original artifacts and engaging photographs to connect visitors and viewers to this local history while highlighting their significance locally and beyond.
For this significant project, in its many formats, which preserves and presents local history to a wide audience, the Honours and Awards Committee is proud to present the Dorothy Duncan Public History Award to the Kawartha Lakes Museum & Archives.
